‘Like watching paint dry!’ US Amateur winner causes storm over pre-shot routine
Sam Bennett joined an illustrious group of players this weekend as he won the 122nd US Amateur at Ridgewood. But while the young American produced a sensational performance to hoist the Havemeyer Trophy, it was his pre-shot routine which frustrated many fans and had everyone talking…
This is just egregious, a fatwa is needed! pic.twitter.com/vlWNlILeNN

For those not counting, Bennett’s pre-shot routine includes 12 look-ups and 14 waggles, a setup which semi-final opponent Dean Menante described as getting “slow-played”. Yikes.
And, if his US Amateur opponents weren’t best pleased with the slow routine, just check out what fans on Twitter had to say about Bennett’s timely tendencies…
FFS..... 12 looks and then he bails to adjust the ball on the tee.
Makes Sergio's constant regrips from years back not worthy.

Dude is INFURIATING to watch. Pump fakes 20+ times per shot and acts like he's 2000s Tiger Woods. Meanwhile his opponent was playing as fast as anyone. Quite the contrast.

Sam Bennett is a human rain delay. HIT THE DAMN BALL

Bennett now qualifies for all four majors after winning the 2022 US Amateur, where we’re sure his slow set-up will continue to cause quite the storm.
