Majors

The Open – 1975, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983
Tom Watson was a prolific winner on the PGA Tour, winning a total of 39 times throughout his career. He won eight majors including one US Open, five Open Championships and two green jackets.
The PGA Championship was the major that eluded him and meant that he would not complete the Grand Slam. His best chance of winning the PGA was in 1978 when he lost on the second play-off hole to John Mahaffey.
Watson is renowned for being one of the best bad weather players in the history of the sport. This enabled him to cope well with the difficult and adverse weather that is presented at The Open. He also developed an incredible short and recovery game which was essential to help win his eight major championships and excel in links golf particularly.
