DP World Tour Championship Fantasy Golf picks

This week the European Tour heads to Dubai for the final event of the 2018 season, the DP World Tour Championship.

Francesco Molinari is in pole position to win the Race to Dubai with his fellow Ryder Cup hero Tommy Fleetwood waiting in the wings if the Italian doesn’t finish well this week.

The aim of our fantasy game this year is to pick the right players to match the RankBuster. This week’s is set at 90 so who can you fit in your team to beat it? Here are my DP World Tour Championship Fantasy Golf picks.

Tyrell Hatton

Fantasy Rank: 6

The Englishman has an impressive record here in the last two years with a T8 finish in 2017 and a second placed finish in 2016 where he finished just one shot behind Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Hatton hasn’t played competitive golf in three weeks and finished T22 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. Prior to that he finished T2 at the Dunhill Links and T14 at the CJ Cup so has been playing well on his previous outings.

Haotong Li

Fantasy Rank: 7

It’s hard to ignore Haotong Li again coming into this week with the form he has shown over the past two months.

His T5 finish in South Africa meant he has finished inside the top 10 in four out of his last five starts with his highest in that period being a T11 finish at the British Masters.

Li also finished T13 at this event last year.

Shane Lowry

Fantasy Rank: 16

The Irishman hasn’t had his finest year having only registered two top 10 finishes in 2018. However, he carries good course form on the Earth Course having finished inside the top 20 in the last two years. Last year he finished T2 with Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

Patrick Reed

Fantasy Rank: 9

Reed has played this event twice in the last three years and has recorded two impressive T10 finishes.

In his last outing the American finished T7 at the HSBC Champions after failing to capitalise on his opening round of 64 which saw him take an early lead. That tournament was Reed’s only start since the Ryder Cup.

Matt Wallace

Fantasy Rank: 21

I picked Wallace last week after a mini slump in form saw his fantasy rank dip and he returned a T5 finish at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The Englishman will be making his debut at the DP World Tour Championship so it is hard to judge his chances by course form, hence his higher fantasy rank for this week.

Andrea Pavan

Fantasy Rank: 31

They say not to fix what isn’t broken and the Italian was another player that I chose last week and returned a good finish in South Africa, so he gets the nod again this week, especially with such a high fantasy rank.

He has been on a fantastic run of form and has seven top 20 finishes since his missed cut at the Scottish Open which includes two top ten finishes and a win at the Czech Masters.

Last week’s picks: Haotong Li (T5), Danny Willett (T50), Charl Schwartzel (T41), Matt Wallace (T5), Andrea Pavan (T11), Matthias Schwab (T41)

Matthew Beedle

National Club Golfer and National Club Golfer magazine

Matthew has been playing golf since he was around 13 and took up the game at a local nine-hole municipal course with his friends before joining Pontefract & District Golf Club just over the hedge.

Still a member of Pontefract with a handicap of 3, he currently sits on the board of directors to help with digital and marketing initiatives in order to improve membership and visitor income.

Matthew graduated university with a First Class in Sports Journalism from Leeds Trinity University and has been working in the golf industry since graduating.

NCG’s social media & marketing manager, Matthew’s main job role is to increase website traffic to the National Club Golfer website via our email and social media channels as well as driving entries to grow our NCG Top 100s Tour events amongst other tasks.

Not one to change his equipment too often, Matthew currently plays the TaylorMade M2 driver which has lasted the test of time in his bag. Elsewhere, you’ll find him using the TaylorMade Stealth 2 three-wood with a Ping G425 Crossover 2-iron to aid his long game.

Through his 4-iron to Gap Wedge, Matthew uses the Ping i500 irons accompanied by Ping’s Glide 3.0 56-degree and 60-degree wedges.

Another club that has stood the test of time in his bag is a Nike Method Core MC-3i putter which has had to have the SuperStroke grip changed at least three times. Ball of choice is the Titleist ProV1.
