Best par 3 holes in golf
5. 17th hole, TPC Sawgrass
The “Island Green” (peninsula if you’re being picky) 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is one of the most famous holes in golf.
Merely a wedge for the better player at just 132 yards, the 17th is daunting because there is nowhere to hit it but on to the green itself.
A small pot bunker guards the front left but this is no place to hit it with the shot being short there is a likely chance that it will plug only making things worse.
The hole wasn’t originally planned to be designed the way it was as the water was only supposed to be a small lake. Due to sand being removed from around the green Pete Dye’s wife, Alice, thought of the idea of filling the crater left behind with water and effectively building a lake.
