The Solheim Cup is back! For the first time in consecutive years, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia will host the best American players competing against the best Europeans.
The Solheim Cup was first played in 1990 and follows the same format as the Ryder Cup which, last year, took place the week after in an epic fortnight of team golf.
Team Europe will be the defending champions after they retained the trophy at Finca Cortesin in Spain last year, drawing 14-14 in a tense affair.
The overall score in the tournament’s history would technically still be 10-7 in this regard, with the Americans holding the advantage thanks to their dominance in the competition over its first two decades.
This year, Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis will again lead their respective teams into battle, like they did 12 months ago. Both have won two major championships and have a history with the competition.
Pettersen was on the victorious European team on four occasions, while Lewis won twice, in both 2015 and 2017.
This year’s edition promises to be an incredible show of golf, with Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, a frequent host venue of the Presidents Cup, set up to be the perfect host to the competition.
