It’s time for players to get their heads down and begin on the road to the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Many players dream of playing in this biennial team match play event between Europe and the USA, which Europe most recently won convincingly in Italy in 2023.
This extended America’s winless run away from home in the Ryder Cup, which dates back to 1993. Europe last won on the road at Medinah Country Club in 2012. It is becoming increasingly difficult to win this event away from home, as only one away team has won it since 2006.
Luke Donald‘s Europe will look to buck the trend against Keegan Bradley‘s Team USA. On August 6, 2024, the qualification criteria for European players was announced in the form of a significant shake-up which saw all players as part of one points list, as opposed to the old system that featured a World Points List and a European Points List.
The points allocation for each event a European player competed in is stated in the below table. For a player to be eligible to represent the continent, they must be European and a member of the DP World Tour.
| Tournament | Points available |
| Majors | 5,000 |
| PGA Tour Sign. Events/The Players/FedEx Cup Playoffs | 3,000 |
| DP World Tour Rolex Series events | 2,000 |
| PGA Tour regular FedEx Cup events | 2,000 |
| DP World Tour Back 9 events | 1,500 |
| DP World Tour Global Series events | 1,000 |
| PGA Tour Opposite Field events | 1,000 |

The qualification process began on August 29 and lasted until August 24, 2025. Six players qualified automatically, and then Donald chose six more players.
The 2025 US Ryder Cup standings contained players who earned points until the 2025 BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top six players earned spots, which left six captain’s picks for Bradley.
Bradley won the BMW Championship last year and continues to impress with his form on the PGA Tour. He previously declared he wouldn’t choose himself if he didn’t make the top six in the points list by the cut-off, and he eventually opted against choosing himself.
