The PNC Championship, played every December, has become an event of marked interest in recent years.
Although the field is full of legendary names and their family members, this team event at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club has been infinitely elevated since 2020 when Tiger Woods and his son Charlie played for the first time.
Not only has it acted as a bonus for golf fans who want to see Woods play as much as possible, but Charlie’s participation has added another level of intrigue.
Footage of Charlie recoiling his followthrough, club-twirling and fist-pumping in the same style as his 15-time major-winning father excites fans to no end and represents a fresh stage of Woods’ life where he is spotted watching his son hit balls almost as often as himself.
Tiger and Charlie came second to John Daly and his son John II in 2021, but they still haven’t won the event. Justin Thomas, Vijay Singh and Bernhard Langer have all tasted success in the time the Woods pair have competed.
To be eligible, the professional player needs to have won a major championship or the Players Championship on the PGA Tour. It was first called the Office Depot Father/Son Challenge in 1995 which was won by Raymond Floyd and Raymond Floyd Junior.
Let’s take a look at the nuts and bolts of the PNC Championship and how the event works.
