Jim Furyk is one of the 21st Century’s best golfers, with his unique swing taking him to a US Open win and 17 PGA Tour victories.
Born in 1970 in the American state of Pennsylvania, Furyk grew up in the game, thanks to his father working as an assistant professional at a number of golf clubs in the area. A successful junior career saw him then go on to the University of Arizona, where he helped the Wildcats to their only ever NCAA title, before graduating in 1992.
His first pro victory came a year later on the Nike Tour, and it would only be a couple more years before he took the first of 17 PGA Tour titles as well. That came at the Las Vegas Invitational, a tournament he would win three times before the turn of the millennium. Furyk’s crowning moment came in 2003, as he won the US Open, his maiden major title. He then went on to win the FedEx Cup in 2010, thanks to a victory at the Tour Championship to end the season.
Furyk has gone on to succeed in the senior game as well, with three wins on the PGA Tour Champions. He won on his first two starts on the tour, becoming just the third person in history to do so, before then claiming a senior major championship in 2021. That win came at the US Senior Open, as he completed the US Open/US Senior Open double, having won both by three shots.

Two Rounds Under 60
Three years prior to his 58 at the Travelers, Furyk had carded a 59 at the BMW Championship. That was just the sixth on the PGA Tour, and his record-breaker at the Travelers saw him become the first player to card two sub-60 rounds on the PGA Tour.
Two for Two
After turning 50, Furyk started plying his trade on the PGA Tour Champions. He won the Ally Challenge and the PURE Insurance Championship in his first two starts on the Tour. In doing so, he joined just Arnold Palmer and Bruce Fleisher in winning their first two events on the PGA Tour Champions.
US Open/US Senior Open Double
Furyk is one of just eight players to have won both the US Open and the US Senior Open in their careers. He is also the most recent to do so after his 2021 win at the US Senior Open, following in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino and Hale Irwin among others.
United States Team Stalwart
Furyk was almost an everpresent for the United States team across both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup for two decades. He played in nine consecutive Ryder Cups from 1997 to 2014, before going on to captain the side at Le Golf National in Paris in 2018. Six years later, he also led the US team in the Presidents Cup.
