Six putts?! Watch this PGA Tour player’s moment of madness…
Thomas Detry whacked his way around the hole during the second round of the Cognizant Classic, creating a viral social media clip..
There was an ugly scene when Thomas Detry arrived at the sixth green in the second round of the Cognizant Classic.
At this point, he was two-over-par for the day, an easily salvageable score. But it wasn’t by the time he reached hole 7.
The Belgian reached the putting surface in regulation and hit his first putt from 51 feet to roughly six feet from the cup – no need for concern.
Detry missed this and continued to carelessly whack his way around the hole until his ball finally dropped for a quadruple-bogey eight.
It came to six putts, so you can put your calculators down. Unsurprisingly, the footage of Detry’s exploits went viral on social media, and you can watch the clip below.

Have you ever seen a PGA Tour player six putt before?
Three-putts frustrate even the least competent of club golfers, so you could expect Detry was bubbling with fury inside.
The World No. 70, who now plies his trade in the USA having spent most of his time on the DP World Tour in previous years, signed for an 80 and missed the cut at PGA National Resort in Florida.
Detry has started his 2024 season fairly well. Having missed the cut at The American Express, he came tied for 20th at the Farmers Insurance Open and tied for fourth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Stunningly, golf fans aren’t strangers to watching top professionals taking this many putts to find the bottom of the hole.
Ernie Else once took six putts to finish on a green at the Masters, a sore sight indeed.
