‘I couldn’t really argue my case’: Ludvig Aberg’s ex-caddie reveals what led to split

Caddie Jack Clarke spoke to NCG about his split with recent PGA Tour winner and Ryder Cup star Ludvig Aberg…

It was a feeling of shock and disappointment for Ludvig Aberg’s ex-caddie Jack Clarke.

Golf Channel reported Aberg parted ways with the Englishman to join forces with veteran PGA Tour carrier Joe Skovron on Monday.

Clarke told NCG the Swede wanted more experience in major tournaments. He revealed the decision shortly before last week’s Grant Thornton Invitational.

“It was a little bit of both (shock and disappointment),” Clarke told NCG. “Having the success we had, I thought it was going to last a little bit longer than expected, so I think it was a little bit of both really.

“Joe is a really nice guy, and hopefully it works out well for both of them,” he added.

“When Ludvig let me know – the reasoning was he wanted more experience in major events which, from that point, I can’t really argue too much from the men’s side.

“But obviously from my experience and doing the big women’s majors and big women’s events

“I know it’s not the same, but I can understand it on the men’s side of things.”

“I couldn’t really argue my case there.”

Skovron was the previous long-time caddie of Rickie Fowler and most recently looped for South Korean Tom Kim.

Clarke has previously caddied for Gemma Dryburgh, Caroline Hedwall and his fiancé Madelene Sagstrom on the LPGA Tour and at the Solheim Cup.

He paired up with Aberg when he was still an amateur in November 2022 and enjoyed a rollercoaster ride that saw him win on the PGA Tour, and DP World Tour and make his Ryder Cup debut.

Aberg made these breakthroughs on both tours and represented Team Europe in Rome all before playing in a major championship.

He and Sagstrom, who share the same coach in Hans Larsson, came third at last week’s mixed event in Florida too, a format Clarke hopes to see more of in the future.

Clarke wished Aberg the best and was determined to help deliver more success last weekend despite it being their last tournament together, as he begins the hunt for a new player in the new year.

“I’ve had a few feelers go out there, but I haven’t really thought too much into it,” he told NCG.

“I just wanted to make last week as professional as it could be, so I concentrated on doing the job with Ludvig and trying to win the event like we always did.

“It was his choice, and I obviously accept any decisions that he makes.”
