Jordan Spieth takes madness to new heights with shot on clubhouse roof
Jordan Spieth did another Jordan Spieth thing on Saturday, possibly the most Jordan Spieth thing that Jordan Spieth has ever done.
The American arrived on the 18th tee box in the third round of the Valero Texas Open and pulled his drive through the fairway and under a tree.
His next shot on this monstrous 618-yard par 5 only travelled 80 yards after it hit a branch. The ball finished in a penalty area surrounded by large rocks and a huge concrete drain from where I would guess no other player has played a shot before on the Oaks course at TPC San Antonio.
Spieth decided not to take a drop and swipe his third shot straight at the clubhouse, which was still in-bounds, with a view to taking a drop within some degree of favourable proximity to the green.
In what is some of the most incredible footage ever seen on the PGA Tour, the three-time major champion’s ball sailed on to the top of the golf course’s clubhouse.
The PGA Tour posted footage of the shot here on social media:

As Golf.com reported, PGA Tour Senior Director of TV Rules Orlando Pope explained on NBC’s broadcast that Spieth could take a drop from the clubhouse, which was an immovable instruction, and the leaderboard to the left of the hole because that was a temporary immovable obstruction.
Dropping near the scoreboard in a native area, Spieth hit his fourth shot from 124 yards into the heart of the green with over 50 feet to the hole for par.
He three-putted for a double-bogey in what was an utterly chaotic sequence of events. Spieth signed for a level-par 72 and sits tied for 17th place heading into the final round in his home state.
It has been a week of ups and downs for Spieth who raised the roof in round one with a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. But in the same round, he also made a double-bogey and carded one-over-par.
American Akshay Bhatia will take a four-shot lead into the final round, looking for his second PGA Tour title.
