‘It’s all fluff’: Collin Morikawa wants PGA Tour-LIV deal done

Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa is done reading PGA Tour emails and just wants the best players in the same place again…

Collin Morikawa misses players who’ve moved to LIV Golf.

This is why recent majors have been so fun for the 26-year-old as they are currently the only weeks where golf’s elite convene in the same place.

The two-time major champion has no issue with players moving to the Saudi-funded league but wishes a deal between the sport’s powers brings the best together again.

A memo recently told players the agreement deadline between the PGA Tour and the Public Investment Fund has been extended, but Morikawa is tired of opening his inbox and wants action.

“I hope everything comes together and we’re able to all play together at some point in some time in some way, but there’s so much back and forth, the emails we get, it’s all fluff,” he said at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

“Like, there’s no point in reading these emails anymore that we get. Players are saying one thing and then they say something else some other time.

“At this point, I think just deals need to be made and we all need to get back to playing golf. It is what it is. Guys make their decision to go one way, I’ve never had an issue with it, I’ve never had an issue with anything.

“Everyone makes their own decision. But I do miss playing with everyone at one time. That’s why the majors have been fun over the past year, two years.

“Not that they’re not fun, but it’s nice to see some of these guys, right, because it’s, that was normal when I turned pro.

“I never thought it was going to be anything different. Not that it takes away from these fields, not that it takes away from the PGA Tour, but there’s great players in other parts of the world, and I think we miss that.”

Collin Morikawa: PGA Tour star not alone in wanting togetherness

The announcement of the framework agreement on June 6 came as a shock to much of the PGA Tour membership.

It seems players still aren’t privy to negotiations between the tour and the PIF, which is why Morikawa isn’t alone in his request for togetherness.

Rory McIlroy hopes the sport can “come back together again,” and Morikawa’s Ryder Cup teammate Xander Schauffele echoed similar thoughts when speaking in Hawaii.

“We’re entertainers, at the end of the day,” he said. “I love what I do for work, and I’m obsessed with my job, but at the end of the day I am a small piece of a big puzzle, and I think everyone wants to see that puzzle whole without missing pieces.

“I think the product is probably better if all together than split up. I don’t have the metrics on what that looks like or anything, I couldn’t tell you ratings were worse or better, really.

“I really put my head in the sand when I tell you that.”

Patrick Cantlay, a player who has previously been linked with a move to LIV Golf, was also asked at the Plantation Course what he would say to fans about golf’s landscape at present.

“I feel for the fan. There’s been a ton of confusion not only for players out on tour in the last year or two, but I can only imagine for the fan at home,” he added.

“So I hope with having more of the best players play the same weeks, they know exactly which weeks are important and important to us players

“And they get to see a lot more tournaments where the best players on tour are competing against each other down the stretch on Sunday because I think that’s what the fan really wants to see.”
