The WM Phoenix Open is one of the most notable events on the PGA Tour schedule, outside of the majors.

In recent years, the very best players on the PGA Tour have won this event: Brooks Koepka, Hideki Matsuyama, and Scottie Scheffler recently etched their names on the winner’s board.

The WM Phoenix Open has gained quite the reputation, as recent editions have made headlines outside and inside the ropes.

The 2024 renewal at TPC Scottsdale saw the raucous and manic behaviour of the spectators reach a new high with some rolling down muddy hills and being recorded shouting on player’s back swings.

During the third round, the tournament’s gates were shut due to larger-than-usual crowds. It was also widely reported that alcohol sales at ‘the People’s Open’ stopped, as footage emerged of fans mud-sliding and even fighting.

The 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale epitomises what is great about the event, with an incredible atmosphere and the creation of an iconic hole on the PGA Tour, but also represents how fan behaviour can cross the line.

In 2022, Joel Dahmen and Harry Higgs celebrated a holed putt by removing their shirts and waving them in football style – a scene that then saw beer cups and beer launched on to the green.

The WM Phoenix Open is an event like no other but in 2024, it lost its elevated status. The event had been given a $20 million purse in 2023, but this was down to $8,800,000 in 2024.

The prize purse in 2025 stood at $9,200,000 and Thomas Detry became the first Belgian to win on the PGA Tour and lifted the trophy.

Detry won by a staggering seven-shot margin. Not only did he romp the field, but he also shot the low round on Sunday which was a 65.

Let’s take a look at what Detry won, what his competitors won and what the man in last place claimed, as well as previous purses and winner’s prizes from previous years.
