Robert MacIntyre will make Ryder Cup debut for Team Europe

Robert MacIntyre – welcome to Team Europe.

The Scotsman took the final automatic Ryder Cup spot on the European Points List despite finishing outside the top 50 at the Omega European Masters.

Adrian Meronk and Yannik Paul failed to secure a top-three finish in Switzerland and couldn’t surpass MacIntyre in the rankings.

Paul and Meronk, and the event’s winner Ludvig Aberg, will now hope to be one of Luke Donald’s six Captain’s picks.

After bogeying the penultimate hole of his second round at Crans-sur-Sierre, MacIntyre made what’s proven to be a vital par on the final hole on Friday to make the weekend.

The 27-year-old became the fifth player confirmed on Donald’s side along with Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.

Despite missing out on a third career victory in Crans Montana, Matt Fitzpatrick leapfrogged Tommy Fleetwood on the World Points List to fill the sixth and final automatic spot.

MacIntyre propelled himself into contention for an automatic spot when coming second at the Genesis Scottish Open, although the title was grabbed from his grasp by McIlroy at the Renaissance Club.

He didn’t record a top 10 on the DP World Tour this year until March, but good finishes in Kenya, Japan, South Korea, and more recently in Prague, helped him climb the standings.

MacIntyre will now join Team Europe at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club later this month where he won last year’s DS Automobiles Italian Open.

Captain Donald will sit down at 2pm on Monday, September 4 to announce his Captain’s picks.
