The PGA Tour has announced schedule changes, purse jumps and location changes for its 2023 season
The 2023 PGA Tour schedule features several significant changes to enable the circuit to transition to a calendar season in 2024.
So what’s new?
The biggest change includes the introduction of eight new ‘invitational’ events, each one boasting huge purses between $15 million and $25 million.
The new 47-event schedule also features a revised post-season where just 70 players will qualify for the Tour’s first FedEx Cup Playoffs event, the FedEx St Jude Championship. This number will then be cut to 50 for the BMW Championship and 30 for the season-ending Tour Championship.
In 2023, the circuit introduced a series of 12 PGA Tour events with average prize purses of $20 million. These full-field events were designed to nail down the top 20 players and guarantee stronger fields.
Following the designated events and the Playoffs in 2023, the PGA Tour has also launched an ‘International Series’ for its top 50 players. These events will be played around the world, with limited fields, each with no cut.
The 2024 PGA Tour schedule is set to return to a calendar year system. This change was announced as part of wholesale changes for next year which include eight reduced-field events. The 2024 schedule is set to remain unchanged despite the PGA Tour’s groundbreaking alliance with the Public Investment Fund.
