It’s a big week for Justin Thomas as he attempts to turn his fortunes around at the Wyndham Championship
Justin Thomas needs a good week if he is to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He is ‘excited’ for the ‘great opportunity’ he has at Sedgefield Country Club.
Just one event of the regular season remains, with the Wyndham Championship taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club.
“I was and am so excited to be playing this week. Like I said, it’s just, it’s a cool opportunity, it’s a great opportunity for me,” Thomas said.
“I just, I mean, I’ve been in the right frame of mind I feel like for the last kind of month or so. I’ve been in a lot better head space of just a feeling like really good things are coming. I feel like I’m going to play well this week. I also felt like I was going to play well at the U.S. Open and I finished what I felt was about last place.
“That’s also part of golf, you just don’t know what you’re going to get. One thing I definitely have learned is you need to be in the right head space and expect some good things to happen and at least that’s where I’m at, so we’ll see.”
Thomas is one of several big names who look like they could miss out on playing in the final three events of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour campaign.

The American has been in poor form this season, and currently sits outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings.
The two-time PGA Champion made just a single cut in the majors this year, while also shooting two rounds in the 80s.

It has been a season that has yielded twice the number of missed cuts compared to top-10 finishes. Thomas missed the cut at both the Open Championship and the 3M Open over the last two weeks.
However, he still has the chance at the Wyndham Championship to make it into that all-important top 70, and to play in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
“I’m very confident, I am. It’s different than trying to win a tournament or making a putt for a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup, whatever it may be, but it’s still that same feeling,” he explained.
“But this is a perfect — like this is golf. Like what is happening this year, it happens every single year. Someone of, I don’t — I mean, my calibre, you know, a top player, I’m not having a bad season, I just haven’t won anything, haven’t finished tournaments off how I want.
“I’m in a position where I might not make the Playoffs and there’s a lot of other good players that have, too. There’s also guys that maybe have been in this position I’m in right now that have played as well as I have other seasons. It’s like that is the reality of golf, like it’s all on you. You’re not relying on any teammates to bail you out, to hinder you, it’s all on you.”
