‘It hit a turtle!’ Remarkable stroke of luck aids LPGA Tour star

You need fortune as well as skill to go deep in a major, and Angel Yin discovered this in the third round of the Chevron Championship

Angel Yin had a wide smile on her face after teeing off on the 12th hole in the third round of the Chevron Championship.

But not for the reason you might think…

The American’s tee shot on the par-3 was heading short of the putting surface and into the water, before bouncing out of the hazard.

Yin’s smile become wider when she made a vital up-and-down for par. So, how did the 24-year-old’s ball stay dry?

“It must have hit a turtle,” the commentary team concluded. It probably wasn’t, but an incredible stroke of fortune nonetheless.

Yin went on to card a 67 to share the 54-hole lead with Allisen Corpuz, aiming to win not only her first major but her first LPGA Tour title too.

Yin first joined the tour in 2017 and she fought off the likes of Nelly Korda and Atthaya Thitikul to get into a playoff with Lilia Vu in the final round in Texas.

However, this is where Yin’s luck ran out. She found the water on the 18th hole, allowing Vu to birdie the first playoff hole to seal her maiden major trophy.
