The final day of any major championship is always riveting. It is a chance for the players to write their names into the history of the sport.
Once you win a major championship, no one can take that away from you. No one can take any win away from you, but it’s special when it’s a major. Nelly Korda experienced this at the Chevron Championship at the Woodlands in Texas in 2024.
She shot a final-round 69 to beat Maja Stark by two shots and claim her second major title. This wasn’t the only final round where Korda rose to the top of the leaderboard. In fact, far from it. The American won seven times in 2024 and established herself as the best player in the women’s game by a long way.
“I can finally breathe now. That back nine felt like the longest back nine of my entire life. It was a little bit of a grind on the back nine, but happy to get the win,” Korda said, adding the Chevron to the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship trophy that she won in 2021.
“I was definitely starting to feel it on the back nine, just the nerves setting in. It’s a major. It’s everything that I’ve always wanted as a little girl, to lift that major trophy. As I said, I can finally breathe now and just enjoy the moment because I was definitely really nervous. I feel sick to my stomach.”
81 players are in the final round of the Chevron Championship in 2025. The final group of Haeran Ryu, Mao Saigo and Lindy Duncan tees off at 11.25 am local time.
