Trump National Doral is back on the LIV Golf schedule in 2025.

The Blue Monster has been a fixture of the golf calendar for many years. It hosted the Doral Open from 1962 to 2006 and then the Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016.

The Blue Monster is the signature course at Trump Doral in Miami which is just west of the Florida Gold Coast. This event lands in the weekend before the Masters, so each exempt player for the first major of the year will be looking to peak.

Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson – all former Masters champions – have won at Doral on the PGA Tour and they will be in the field for the fifth event on the 2025 LIV Golf schedule.

Also in the field will be Jon Rahm, Charl Schwartzel, Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia who have all won the Masters too. Throw in Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith and Tyrrell Hatton and it will be another stellar line-up looking to find form before heading to Augusta National.

Dean Burmester of the South African Stinger team won at Doral in 2024, beating Garcia in a playoff after the pair finished on 11-under-par. They went down the 18th, and both made par the first time around, but Garcia made a bogey the second time, which opened the door for Burmester. Garcia has lost three of the four LIV Golf playoffs he’s been involved in.

As per usual, the purse will be $25 million. $20 million is set aside for the individual pot, $4 million of which will go to the winner. $5 million goes to the team pot, of which $3 million goes to the winning team.

On the Saturday of tournament week, there will also be The Duels, where six LIV Golfers team up with six content creators in a scramble stroke-play format.

Let’s break down the event a little more and answer some commonly asked questions about LIV Golf.

How to watch LIV Golf

LIV Golf has signed a deal with FOX Sports in the USA, so US fans will be able to watch the action across all FOX channels from 2025. LIV Golf+ App subscribers in the UK will still be able to watch the action and they can now watch the action on ITVX.

In Spain, you can watch LIV Golf on Movistar Plus+.

How does LIV Golf work?

At each event, four players compete on behalf of the 13 different teams. To make up the 54-man fields, two wildcard players compete too: Anthony Kim and Max Lee usually.

After three rounds, the player with the lowest score wins the individual trophy, just like any other golf tournament. The winning team is decided by the lowest total score combined at the end of the week. For example, if Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt all shoot two-under on day one, their total for day one is eight-under. Let’s say that do that again in rounds two and three, their total for the tournament is 24-under.

Each round is a shotgun start too, so each group goes to a different hole on the course. The shotgun goes off and they play away. So, the group starting on hole 6 will finish on hole 5.

Who owns LIV Golf?

The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia is reportedly worth $930 billion. It is the sole investor in the LIV Golf League, which means the Saudi sovereign wealth fund is the one writing the cheques for the events, players and everything else.

Greg Norman might have been the architect behind the design of LIV Golf, but it is the PIF that is responsible for its financial existence. It is the PIF’s seemingly endless pot of money that has funded the sign-up fees for Mickelson, Johnson, Rahm, DeChambeau, Koepka and Smith – all of which were reportedly paid nine-figure sums.
