Donald Trump Jr has branded Henrik Stenson’s LIV debut victory “the greatest F/U in the history of golf” after the Swede took home $4.375 million at Bedminster – two weeks after being sacked as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain.
Stenson went wire-to-wire at Trump National to win LIV Golf’s third event, immediately following the feat by trying to fire shots over his dismissal.
“I think we can agree, I played like a captain,” he jibed after earning the mouth-watering sum.
And, if that wasn’t a bizarre enough claim – Lee Westwood was captain of team Majesticks, not Stenson – Trump Jr, the son of ex-President Donald Trump who owns the New Jersey course, then took to Twitter to congratulate the Swede on his debut victory.
Stenson’s victory no doubt twisted the knife in deeper on Team Europe as he sealed a debut LIV win, but the ‘biggest FU in the history of golf’? We’ll let you decide that one.
Elsewhere, Twitter reacted with a mixture of elation, confusion and anger to Stenson’s win…
