In his first LIV Golf event since being sacked as Team Europe's captain, Henrik Stenson took home the $4 million first prize at Bedminster...

It just had to happen, didn’t it?

Just over a week on from his stunning U-turn on the Ryder Cup captaincy, Henrik Stenson twisted the knife in deeper on Team Europe as he sealed victory at LIV Golf Bedminster – earning a debut win in the Saudi-funded series alongside a bucket load of cash.

Everything had been about Stenson heading into the breakaway league’s third event in New Jersey, the Swede lured in as LIV’s biggest scalp yet after his defection brought a shocking end to his 128 day tenure as captain of Ryder Cup Team Europe.

And, after heavy backlash, how Greg Norman will be licking his lips even more as Stenson went from dominating headlines to dominating competition by cruising to victory in Bedminster.

Stenson rekindled the form which ironically earned his Ryder Cup captaincy in the first place, going wire-to-wire at Trump National to win by two shots over Matthew Wolff with a score of 11-under par.

In the process, any ounce of guilt was surely liquidated as Stenson raked in a mouth-watering $4,000,000, monetarily justifying exactly why he made the controversial switch.

β€œI think we can agree, I played like a captain,” jibed the Swede after his victory. β€œIt’s been a busy 10 days, but I’m extremely proud to focus as well as I did.

β€œI’ve had a lot of support from friends and family. When the tough gets going, that’s when friendships get put to the test.”
