If there was an event to encapsulate what LIV Golf has tried to achieve from the start, it’s Adelaide.
Australian fans are hungry to see the stars. 94,000 of them were in 2024 anyway, and on the 12th at the Grange, a more obscure microcosm of LIV’s utopian setting will be on display again in 2025.
The Watering Hole lived up to its name when Chase Koepka made a hole-in-one in 2023, sparking scenes as if each fan had just won the lottery, combined with a nine-darter at the World Darts Championship.
The same happened in 2025 when the former Masters champion Patrick Reed made an ace and celebrated adequately.
Beer rained, cups flew, and players jumped up and down gleefully. This description best describes the before-seen action of the WM Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour, where the party hole was born.
The 16th on the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale has earned the name the Stadium Hole for obvious reasons. Stands surround this short par-3 and are occupied by fans who boo balls that miss the green and celebrate lottery-style if a ball goes in the hole.

LIV has evidently decided that this concept matches its ethos. Where better to plant it than Australia, a country where many column inches have been devoted to promoting more golf events, but to little avail?
“It is a really big adrenaline rush. It’s loud. Not only that, it plays a bit weird because there are so many stands and trees around that hole that you don’t really feel the wind, so you’re guessing on that,” LIV star and former Open champion Cameron Smith said.

“It’s so cool, but trying to get in Leish’s head about how to play them better because I’ve played them terribly.”
“I think it’s one of the few times that you actually no matter where the pin is you’re aiming straight at it because yes, you want to try and make that 1,” Marc Leishman added. “I think normally you’re thinking about consequences, you’re thinking, if I miss this a little right, it’s pretty screwed over there.
“I’d better aim a bit left of the pin just to give myself a bit more wiggle room, a bit more margin for error. That one for me, I’m aiming straight at it every time. It’s just fun. I think it’s really cool, yeah, trying to get that big roar.”
The 12th hole at the Grange is 165 yards, virtually the same length as the Stadium Hole at TPC Scottsdale. The Scottsdale hole reached its peak decibel level in 2022 when Harry Higgs and Joel Dahmen celebrated a holed putt by removing their tops and swinging them like footballers. They were subsequently showered with alcohol and cups that were eventually swept away from the green by volunteers.
If you do find yourself awake and watching the action down under at LIV Golf’s second event of 2025, eyes will be fixed on the Watering Hole with fans hoping for more jubilance.
