To the shock of absolutely no one, the LIV Golf event in Australia has been a roaring success since its birth.
This is the third time that the LIV Golf League has visited the Grange in Adelaide, an area of Australia that is quite frankly littered with incredible golf courses and passionate golf fans.
It has long been to the angst of golf fans and reporters that Australian golf courses aren’t used enough on the mainstream tours. The DP World Tour co-sanctions the Australian Open and the Australian PGA at the end of each calendar year, two events that visit incredible golf courses like Royal Queensland and Kingston Heath.
Television and timezones are two summarised issues that have probably prevented the PGA Tour from heading to Australia on a regular basis. Anyway. LIV Golf heads there and the Saudi-funded circuit deserves all the credit in the world for it.
It will be the first LIV Australia event where Greg Norman will not appear as the league’s CEO in front of his home fans. He has taken up a different role to allow new chief Scott O’Neill to slot in.
Rippers GC will have a home game as Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones will no doubt thrive again while playing in front of a home crowd that isn’t hesitant to make a bit of noise.
All the stars of the LIV Golf roster will be out like they are each week: Smith, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed – the usual suspects.
Adrian Meronk won the season’s curtain-raising event in Riyadh shooting a 71 in the final round to beat Jon Rahm and Sebastian Munoz by two shots.
There is also much more to play for now in the LIV Golf League now that the US Open and the Open will offer a spot for their 2025 renewals.
