Karrie Webb is arguably the greatest Australian to ever play the game of golf, with seven major championships to her name.
Born in December 1974 in the state of Queensland, Webb took to the game quickly, and was a member of the Australian Amateur side throughout her youth days. She turned professional in 1994, and would have to wait just a year for her first professional crown. That came on the Futures Tour, and over the course of her career, she would win on the LPGA Tour, Ladies European Tour, LPGA Tour of Japan and the LPGA Tour of Australasia.
Webb is the only player in the history of the game to have created the Super Grand Slam – thanks to winning five different major championships. Her first major win came at the du Maurier Classic in 1999, before she then won both the US Women’s Open and the Kraft Nabisco Championship (now Chevron Championship) twice, along with victories at the Women’ British Open and the Women’s PGA Championship.
In total, Webb amassed 56 professional victories around the world, including 41 wins on the LPGA Tour – which places her inside the top ten on the all-time list. Her seven major titles is also the most of any Australian – male or female – with Peter Thomson’s five victories at the Open Championship putting him in second place.
