Jiyai Shin is one of Korea’s best ever golfers, with two major victories and a total of 66 wins around the world during her career.
Born in Yeonggwang-gun in the South Jeolla Province of Korea in April 1988, Shin only started playing the sport at the age of 11. She would turn professional just six years later with a win to her name already, having claimed the title at the SK Enclean Invitational on the LPGA Tour of Korea. Over the next few years, she would go on to dominate the tour, including a ten-win season in 2007.
A year later, Shin broke down the major door, winning the Women’s British Open on the Old Course at Sunningdale. The Korean would then win the title again four years later, winning by an incredible nine shots at Royal Liverpool. These wins are part of 11 wins on the LPGA Tour and six wins on the Ladies European Tour. The Korean also has eight other top five finishes in major championships, including a runners-up finish at the 2023 US Women’s Open.
Shin has a total of 66 worldwide victories, with a career spanning two decades, through to her most recent win at the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup – one of the LPGA Tour of Japan’s four major tournaments.
