Xander Schauffele propelled himself into the conversation of being one of the best players of his generation in 2024.

The American hadn’t won a major, despite owning a hatful of PGA Tour trophies, and questions were raised about his game holding up at the sports big four events, but he silenced all doubters with wins at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship.

Schauffele beat Bryson DeChambeau to win the Wanamaker Trophy, but arguably his most impressive performance was that Open at Royal Troon when the wind was howling and the rain was sideways.

He has been extremely consistent since joining the PGA Tour in 2017. He hadn’t won for two years before picking up his first major championship at Valhalla in Kentucky.

He won for the first time on the PGA Tour in 2017 at the Greenbrier Classic and he followed this up with a win at the season-ending Tour Championship in the same year.

Often by his side has been his wife Maya Lowe. She has been pictured supporting Schauffele at many tournaments, including when he has played for Team USA in events such as the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup.

Xander Schauffele wife: Meet Maya Lowe

Schauffele and Maya have been together since 2014. They met when they attended university in San Diego. Schauffele went to San Diego State University where he played golf and learned his trade, while Maya studied at the University of California.

Born in 1994, she graduated from college with a degree in science and public health and she also has a Masters degree in healthcare administration. Meanwhile, Schauffele graduated with a degree in social sciences. Maya is fluent in Japanese and of Japanese descent, while Schauffele’s mother Chen Ping-Yi was born in Taiwan but grew up in Japan before moving to America.

Schauffele and Maya have travelled to Japan together and he has several other relatives who live near Tokyo, so it was all the more special when he competed in the Olympic games.

The pair got married in 2021 in Las Vegas, which was actually a winless year on the PGA Tour for Schauffele, but the same year he won the Olympic Gold Medal at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Japan.

“No offence to anyone here, but I would not choose a place that rains so much to take my honeymoon,” the US star said at the subsequent Scottish Open after his wedding.

“It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been together for quite some time and decided to make it public. We’re very happy.”

Maya also caddied for Schauffele at the 2024 Masters in the par 3 contest, which is the fun, family-orientated event on the day before the year’s opening major begins.
