Robert MacIntyre has become one of the world’s best players in 2024 and one of Europe’s most consistent performers on the PGA Tour.
He won twice on the DP World Tour before automatically qualifying for the European Ryder Cup team in Rome in 2023. It was a huge week for MacIntyre in which he earned 2.5 points.
MacIntyre earned 1.5 points playing with Justin Rose in both fourball sessions, and then he beat the reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark in the Sunday singles to rubberstamp Europe’s victory which had already been guaranteed by Tommy Fleetwood.
While plying his trade in the USA and making no bones about how difficult it was to adapt to American life in 2024, MacIntyre put his troubles aside to win the RBC Canadian Open and the Genesis Scottish Open in front of his home crowd in East Lothian.

“When I’m not enjoying it and people around me can see when I’m not enjoying it. – it was so obvious and it’s OK because I’m not the only person that’s going through that,” MacIntyre said earlier in 2024 about American life.
“I mean, there’s probably at least half of the guys from the European Tour feeling it and because we speak a lot, we’re always speaking, whether it’s locker room or players lounges. We’re always talking about it and I just noticed that and then we got home back to Scotland for three weeks there and it really opened our eyes.
“Mine and Shannon’s eyes that this Orlando lifestyle or the American lifestyle probably isn’t for us, and that’s OK. Living in America or living anywhere else in the world doesn’t isn’t for everyone, and I just think we’re learning on the road.”

Despite the sentiment of winning in Scotland, the win in Canada was arguably more poignant given it was his first win on the PGA Tour and he had his father Dougie on the bag by his side.
MacIntyre found the PGA Tour scene insular at first. There wasn’t the same camaraderie as many players report there is on the DP World Tour, but the popular man from Oban often attributes his coping mechanisms to his family and specifically, his girlfriend Shannon.
It isn’t clear when MacIntyre and Shannon Hartley started seeing each other. The pair posed for a smiley photo with the rest of MacIntyre’s team in the middle of the 18th fairway at Royal Liverpool during the 2023 Open, which seems to be the first time Shannon appeared on his Instagram account.
Then after MacInytyre made his Ryder Cup debut, he posted a clip of himself merrily dancing with Shannon and other friends and family. It’s fair to say he was delighted with Europe’s win and his first taste of success in the biennial shown against the United States.
Shannon also attended the 2023 Ryder Cup Gala Dinner which is an event made for all of the players and their partners to enjoy a night on the town before the action begins.
