The eight-time Order of Merit winner will be the host in Aberdeenshire later this year…

Colin Montgomerie Legends Tour

The 2024 Staysure Seniors PGA Championship, the European Legends Tour’s flagship event, will be hosted by Colin Montgomerie.

The tournament, the only four-day event outside of the majors on the Legends Tour, will be played at Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.

The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship is the biggest tournament on the European Legends Tour, akin to the BMW PGA Championship and the Players Championship on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, respectively.

Montgomerie will host the tournament, joining the likes of Ian Woosnam, Paul Lawrie and Peter Baker in putting their names to events on the 2024 Legends Tour calendar.

Peter Baker will be the defending champion after a six-shot victory last year, what was his third win of the 2023 season on the European Legends Tour.

The event will run from July 31 to August 4 on the Aberdeenshire links, with a whole host of stars expected to play in the tournament.

Tournament host Colin Montgomerie said: “I am thrilled and honoured to have become a host on the Legends Tour. To be hosting the oldest Senior championship in Europe is a distinct privilege.

“The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship promises to be a fantastic event again this year, with it returning to Trump International Golf Links. The facilities are superb, and the course is incredible. It will provide a great test for the players, while displaying a stunning spectacle for those watching on

“I cannot wait for the tournament week, where I will be doing my best to be a good host, while also focussing on competing against a very strong field.”

Phil Harrison, CEO of the Legends Tour, said: “Colin Montgomerie is a name synonymous with European golf and the success it has enjoyed over the past forty years. We are delighted to have Colin on board as a host on the Legends Tour as we look to take it to the next level and continue our growth over the past four years.

“Having a marquee name to host our flagship event makes things extra special. The Staysure PGA Senior Championship is a week which all our members want to be a part of. The return to Trump International Golf Links where we enjoyed such a great event in 2023 and now with Colin hosting makes it a week to savour this summer.”

Sarah Malone, the Executive Vice President at Trump International, Scotland, said: “We are truly honoured to welcome Colin back to Trump International Golf Links, Scotland where he helped launch our magnificent links with President Trump in 2012.

“We are thrilled to host The Staysure PGA Seniors Championship for a second year and can think of no better host for this fantastic tournament featuring so many great legends of the game.”

The tournament, which was first played on the Aberdeenshire coast last year, will form part of a Scottish swing.

The event will be preceded by the Senior Open presented by Rolex – the last of the five senior major championships in 2024. The Senior Open will be held at Carnoustie Golf Links.

The week before that will see the Open Championship played at Royal Troon, giving Scottish golf fans an incredible month of action.

Tickets for the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship are available on the Legends Tour website, and can be bought now at a discounted price.

Mention a European country, and Matt will tell you which resorts make the National Club Golfer Top 100s: European Resorts list. He might even throw in who designed the golf course and how many rooms the hotel has got at each one…

Matt got into the game of golf from a young age, following his old man to the local golf club. He fell for the sport, and now can’t seem to go a day without thinking about how to improve his game (Thanks Dad!). Matt has been a member of Howley Hall GC in Leeds since 2020, and is just about managing to maintain a single-figure handicap. He likes to remind people that he once broke 75, but won’t tell people that it was on a shortened course during the winter.

He moved to Leeds after graduating from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism. Matt joined NCG after almost five years travelling the world with the Professional Squash Association, working on events in all four corners of the globe.

Matt currently plays a Cobra King LTDx driver and RadSpeed 3-wood. TaylorMade monopolise the rest of his bag, with a SIM UDI, M5 irons and both Milled Grind and HI-TOE wedges, along with a Monza Redline putter. He uses a Vice Pro Plus golf ball, because he’s a bit different…

Away from golf, Matt is a Manchester United fan, and a keen runner, having ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (his first and possibly last), in May 2023.
