The BMW Championship is the second event in the FedEx Cup Playoffs on the PGA Tour schedule, which means it has an almighty purse to come with it.
There is a $20 million prize purse up for grabs at Caves Valley in Maryland, $3.6 million of which will go to the winner.
Keegan Bradley won the event last year in Owing Mills, an event which has previously been held at Olympia Fields, Wilmington, Aronimink, Crooked Stick, Bellerive and Medinah.
The best and most in-form players compete, as only the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup rankings at this stage are eligible to compete. This second leg of the Playoffs is then followed by the Tour Championship which ends the season.
Last year, the winner of the BMW Championship earned a cool $3.6 million, a little less than the amount of money you win if you finish top of the leaderboard at a LIV Golf event, which is $4 million. This is what the winner receives at a player-hosted Signature Event on the PGA Tour in 2025.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial and the Genesis Invitational are the player-hosted Signature Events that have 36-hole cuts and give away 20% of the purse to the tournament winner.
Since Patrick Cantlay won this event in 2021, the purse has more than doubled. Cantlay won $1,710,000 of the $9,500,000 purse. This is a sign of professional golf’s direction of travel.
Some of the best players in the world have won this event in the last 15 years. Bradley, Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose have all tasted victory.
Here was the Signature Event schedule for the 2025 PGA Tour season. The Players Championship is not a Signature Event but offers 750 FedEx Cup points for the winner and a total purse of $25 million.
