Tiger’s next project: Dominating the video game industry (again)

Tiger Woods has put pen to paper on a deal that will excite any golf fan who has ever picked up a joystick

Did you grow up playing the Tiger Woods video game franchise? Have we got some news for you.

Woods will be back on our screens in pixel form after announcing a deal with 2K.

Woods has agreed to an exclusive, long-term partnership with the publisher, who also revealed they have acquired the privately-owned HB Studios, the developer of the latest iteration in the 2K series – PGA Tour 2K21 – as well as The Golf Club franchise.

Woods, the face of EA Sports’ PGA Tour franchise from 1999 to 2014, will take on the role of executive director and the agreement includes rights for his name and likeness to appear exclusively in the PGA Tour 2K franchise, as well as any other golf games published by 2K during the partnership term.

Excited? So is Woods.

“I am looking forward to making my return to the video game landscape, sharing my expertise and insights as we build the future of golf video games together,” the 15-time major champion, who has just returned home after a three-week stay in hospital as a result of a car accident.

It’s an exciting time for fans of golf video games. This writer is only just getting over the loss of the EA Sports series that was such a huge part of his childhood.

So when can we expect to see Woods back in this format? PGA Tour 2K21, which has already sold two million copies worldwide, was released in August of last year, so expect the follow up at the end of the summer.

The question is, will it be called Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2K22? Watch this space.
