Zing! McIlroy owns Faldo with hilarious on-air jab
Rory McIlroy couldn’t resist a little poke at Sir Nick Faldo during the Memorial. Watch the footage here
Let’s be honest, watching players warm-up prior to their round is hardly the most enthralling part of the PGA Tour’s weekend coverage, but thankfully we have Rory McIlroy…
The Northern Irishman gave viewers something to chuckle about while hitting balls at the Memorial, using quick wit to mock golfing legend Sir Nick Faldo before his third round at Murifield Village.
As McIlroy warmed up on the range, CBS reporter Colt Knost hovered in the background to get a peak of the Northern Irishman’s launch monitor.
Back in the studio, Faldo couldn’t resist chiming in. “That last thing you want is Colt Knost in your bloomin’ backswing when you’re trying to warm up,” he joked. “That will put you right off your day.”
Knost then decided to put one on a plate for McIlroy to get the last laugh on his commentary colleague.
We’ll let the broadcast take it from here…
Ice cold from McIlroy. Although CBS viewers will feel Faldo had it coming after the six-time major winner made a “rookie mistake” and spoiled McIlroy’s epic recovery shot at the Masters two months earlier.
With the roasting, Faldo now goes 2-down from the booth to his fellow Ryder Cup star.
