Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay chipped his ball into an almost impossible position on the par-3 14th hole in the final round of the RBC Heritage.

While two shots behind Jordan Spieth and preparing a treacherous chip towards the flag, with the water in the background, he overhit his shot.

The ball looked destined for the hazard, but remarkably became wedged between the wooden platform and the wooden board on the side.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner stabbed his ball from the ledge and made an impressive up and down to remain in contention.

Cantlay was beaten by Spieth in a playoff at Harbour Town in 2022, and the American pair were battling on the back nine again in South Carolina.

After much deliberation with his caddie – who was heard on the broadcast losing patience with Cantlay when he said “I’ve told you my thoughts” – he ended up trying his luck. And how…

Cantlay had addressed his slow-play critics in his pre-tournament press conference, but it didn’t nudge him along once the action was underway. Matt Fitzpatrick’s caddie Billie Foster wasn’t shy to let his feelings known on Sunday…
