What would you dish up at the Masters Champions Dinner?

It’s something we all discuss between ourselves in the build up to the first major of the year, but for Jon Rahm that anecdotal chat is now just 11 and a half months from becoming reality.

Ahead of this week’s RBC Heritage, he was asked if he has managed to give it any thought.

Of course he has – it’s something he’ll have been thinking about since he first picked up a golf club – but he’s not revealing everything just yet.

“This is the part of the week that I’ve given the most amount of thought already,” he told reporters in his pre-tournament press conference.

“I don’t know exactly. I have one of the appetizers down, which would be jambon, Spanish ham, the dessert, which I won’t be disclosing, and the wine. Everything in between is still up in the air. Those three things, I have down for now.”

Rahm also revealed he’ll be employing the help of an award-winning restaurateur in the build up to the 2024 Masters, as well as picking the brains of two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal.

“Chef Jose Andres is a really good friend of mine, so I’ll be working with him. I also want to talk to Ollie, because we’re from the same part of Spain, to see what he did in his dinner and see if I can go a different route.”

Rahm was also asked why he was in Harbour Town this week. Despite the Heritage’s new elevated event status, the Spaniard would have been forgiven for giving it a miss.

“It did cross my mind,” he admitted. “It would have crossed anybody’s because I was so tired. I decided to come in [Tuesday] afternoon and take it easier and just give my body a rest before I got into competition mode.

“But I made a commitment earlier in the year, and I want to honour that.

“I put myself in the shoes of not only the spectators, but the kids as well. If I was one of the kids, I would want to see the recent Masters champion play – good or bad – and just want to be there.”

Only Bernhard Langer in 1985 has won both the Green Jacket and Heritage tartan jacket in successive weeks. This is largely due to most Masters champions taking the week off, but Rahm is hoping to add another item to his wardrobe this week.

“I still intend to do the jacket double and taking this one home,” he said. “I’m not going to parade myself, right?

“I can promise you that every time I tee it up in a tournament, it’s going to be to win. It may feel better or worse, but I intend to try my hardest to win.”

Later, Rahm revealed that, of all the (presumably hundreds of) people that got in touch with him after his win at Augusta National, there was one that stood out…
