Masters Champions Dinner: What’s been served down the years?
As Augusta National reveals Jon Rahm’s menu for this year’s gathering, we look back at what’s been served in the past
It’s always one of the biggest talking points ahead of the Augusta showpiece, so we decided to run down the Masters Champions Dinner menus served down the years. Including what might be the worst Masters dinner menu ever made…
For those that don’t know, each year on Tuesday of Masters week, the past champions of Augusta sit down and enjoy a meal together. The menu is selected and paid for by the previous year’s champion and quite often includes dishes from their homeland.
The first Masters dinner was arranged by Ben Hogan in 1952 following his win the previous year. The stipulations were that you had to be a past champion, plus Bob Jones and Clifford Roberts, you wore your ‘green coat’ and that you arrived, promptly, at 7.15pm. It would be a chance to “reminisce, swap banter and relax”.
We’ve detailed meals dating back all the way to 1986. But first, it’s the one you’ve been waiting for…
Worst Masters Dinner menus ever
When it comes to the worst Masters Champion Dinner menus ever, there’s one menu that stands out from the rest.
Bubba Watson’s Masters dinner in 2013 made headlines for all the wrong reasons, mainly because it was the most calorie-enriched Masters Champions dinner in the past ten years, checking in at an estimated 960 calories per serving.
The best part? He announced exactly the same Masters dinner menu two years later after his next win at Augusta, down to the very last hundreds and thousands topping on the confetti cake!
