Journalist booted out of Mickelson interview reveals delicious twist
Some heavies escorted Phil Mickelson biographer Alan Shipnuck out of Lefty’s LIV Golf press conference, and you couldn’t possibly guess what happened next
The highly-controversial LIV Golf Invitational has finally teed off and there has been a lot to take in.
Minutes after the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia got underway at the inaugural event at Centurion, those defecting to the Saudi-backed series were immediately informed of a suspension in an email from PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.
LIV Golf fired straight back with a statement of their own as both circuits traded blows.
And yet it wasn’t even done there. Golf writer Alan Shipnuck, author of Phil: The Rip-Roaring (and Unauthorized!) Biography of Golf’s Most Colorful Superstar, had been attending the opening day as a member of the media, but found himself embroiled in what is now a viral altercation after he was removed from Phil Mickelson’s post-round press conference by, quote, “a couple of neckless security dudes”.
Here’s the video, tweeted by Shipnuck via his media company The Fire Pit Collective:
Oh you know it doesn’t end there.
Shipnuck then tweeted a screenshot of a text exchange between himself and Greg Norman, in which the LIV CEO denied knowing anything about the incident.
Shipnuck responded in the simplest and, perhaps most telling way possible. Norman was there the whole time!
And you know social media enjoyed every delicious drop…
Shipnuck will be dining out on this one for a while…
