MacGregor Principal 14.0 Golf Trolley Bag Review: First Impressions

What initially struck me was how lightweight the bag was, and with three grab handles fitted to the top of the bag, it is easy to transport to and from the golf course.

Visually, the MacGregor Principal 14.0 Golf trolley bag is great to look at. The dashes of bright, illuminous colours give the bag a more modern and fresh look. MacGregor offer the bag in three different stylish colour combinations, with a black and a black, white and blue bag available.

MacGregor Principal 14.0 Golf Trolley Bag Review: NCG Verdict

I was particularly impressed with the exceptional organisation that is available when using the bag. A 10″, 14-way top of the bag with three full-length dividers makes for easy club placement and access, so you aren’t scrambling for a club between shots. It also stops your clubs from tangling together, which has irritated even the most calm and level headed golfer golfers.

Accessibility is a key feature of the MacGregor Principle 14.0 trolley bag as its pockets are designed for easy access with being forward-facing, also making each one useful. With the warmer days gradually making a more frequent appearance, most of us will be taking extra supplies out on the course to keep hydrated. There is also a cool pocket located at the front of the bag to allow the storage of food and drink.

This MacGregor trolley bag has enough space for all your essentials with its nine strategically placed pockets including seamless velour-lined valuable pocket. All bases are covered for even the most supplied golfers.

Practically, the bag also hold up very well. Neat features that include an umbrella loop, pen holder, extra-large travel and rain hood and a padded shoulder strap all add to its functionality.

The lack of waterproofing that the bag itself has is a bit of a concern when trying to keep clubs, phones and wallets dry. However, the rain hood is waterproof and should provide some water resistance to survive another round of golf when the Great British weather decides that the sun has shone for long enough. I, admittedly, only used this on a dry, warm day, having just missed a rain shower, so I can’t speak on the strength of its waterproofing for definite.

MacGregor Principal 14.0 Golf Trolley Bag Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, this MacGregor trolley bag provides a practically stacked option for all your essential golf gear as well as its modern look and reasonable pricing making it particularly appealing. The bag not being waterproof could be a bit off putting with the weather in Britain for most of the year.

I used the MacGregor Principal 14.0 trolley bag on an old PowaKaddy trolley. The lack of movement or shaking from the bag on the PowaKaddy was noticeable. Even when walking up and down slopes around the course, the bag was remained in position without moving on the trolley. So, it was nice not to hear the sound of my irons clanging together, and to be able to focus on the round knowing my clubs were perfectly safe from damage in the bag.

About the author

Max Mcvittie

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
