There are no excuses not to be playing golf this winter

The clocks have gone back and the mercury is dropping – fast.

One of the best things about winter golf is getting wrapped up in some quality gear to fight off the elements.

We’ve rounded up some of the best winter golf clothes below to keep you out on the course right until next spring.

Best winter golf clothes: FootJoy Chillout Xtreme jersey

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: The four-way stretch shell helps keep your core warm while allowing free range of motion throughout the swing.

NCG verdict: These tops are actually ideal all year round. If it’s really cold they work well as a mid-layer under a jacket or they can be worn as an outer-layer.

They are quite tight-fitting but have enough stretch to be comfortable and practical for golf.

SRP: £85

For more information visit the FootJoy website.

Best winter golf clothes: Galvin Green Danny Insula pullover

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: The Insula fabric combines exceptional breathability with thermal regulation making it ideal for golf in cooler conditions.

NCG verdict: A very clean and stylish look but the technology really gets to work when the temperature drops. If it’s going to be dry then this is more than a suitable substitute for a jacket.

SRP: £100

Best winter golf clothes: Under Armour GCI (ColdGear Infared) Reactor jacket

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Responds to your climate and effort level, warming you up when you are less active, and cooling you down as you heat up to maintain the perfect level of warmth.

NCG verdict: For those who want the Jordan Spieth wins The Open at Royal Birkdale look. Really nicely padded but doesn’t let you overheat. There’s stretchy material on the sleeves, sides and around the shoulders so movements isn’t restricted.

Two really large front pockets come in handy for extra balls, tees and gloves.

SRP: £125

For more information visit the Under Armour Golf website.

Best winter golf clothes: Under Armour CGI Match Play pant

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Repels water without sacrificing breathability. Has a a warm, brushed interior and a slick, fast-drying exterior. A stretch-engineered waistband aids mobility and adds comfort.

NCG verdict: Another item well-worth considering for this winter because they will keep you warm without being too thick or heavy. They are comfortable and it’s very easy to wipe a bit of mud off rather than putting them in the washing machine. But the tapered leg design should help keep the bottoms a bit cleaner anyway.

These will get plenty of use from October to April and will also do a job on chillier spring and summer rounds. Great value for money too.

SRP: £70

For more information visit the Under Armour Golf website.

Best winter golf clothes: Ping Norse jacket

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Lightweight, high-performance thermal insulation, with a permanent water resistant technology, resulting in exceptional warmth, even when wet.

NCG verdict: One of the trendiest pieces of golf clothing Ping have launched in recent years. It’s a heck of a lot lighter than it looks but it keeps you really snug and warm.

Can handle to odd rain shower with no trouble at all. A really fashionable piece that looks great with a pair of jeans but it’s loaded with technology to keep you at the right temperature.

SRP: £140

For more information visit the Ping apparel website.

Best winter golf clothes: Adidas Climaheat quilted half-zip jacket

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Climaheat technology uses hollowed fibres (similar to natural fur) which assist in keeping the heat in but also help you dry out faster.

NCG verdict: A modern and stylish look with the contrasting materials. Half-zip style makes it ideal for throwing on as an extra layer and prevents bunching around the mid-riff. Available as part of the official 2018 Ryder Cup merchandise.

SRP: £99.95

For more information visit the Adidas Golf website.

Best winter golf clothes: Puma Pwrwarm Extreme jacket

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: The lightest and warmest jacket Puma have ever made. The technology retains heat close to your body to maintain your optimum temperature.

NCG verdict: We think Puma are right up there for making cool golf clothing – mainly because it doesn’t look like golf clothing! No one is going to ask why you are wearing a golf jacket if you’ve got this on with a pair of jeans down the pub.

SRP: £120

For more information visit the Puma Golf website.

Best winter golf clothes: Callaway Heathered knit thermal pullover

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Keeps you warm by creating a barrier between you and the cold weather. Moisture-wicking technology pulls sweat away from your body so you can cool down when it gets warmer.

NCG verdict: Clean and stylish with nice subtle branding on the sleeve.

SRP: £49.99

For more information visit the Callaway apparel website.

Best winter golf clothes: Mizuno Breath Thermo full-zip gilet

Best winter golf clothes

The tech: Loads of it here. Mizuno’s Breath Thermo yarn padding traps traces of escaping body moisture to generate new heat.

NCG verdict: The first time Mizuno have utitlised some of their Japanese technology and styling to the European market. It’s quite nice to see as loud colours don’t seem to be in vogue with the other brands at the moment. So if you’re looking for an escape from the black, blue and greys – Mizuno could be the way for you this winter.

SRP: £95

For more information visit the Mizuno website.

Best winter golf clothes: Stromberg Wintra 2.0 trousers

Best winter golf clothes

SRP: £59.95
