Hundreds of people looked to the skies as Spitfires flew over Slaithwaite, as Glenbrae marked the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
The event celebrated Glenbrae’s close connections to the RAF, with proceeds going to the RAF Benevolent Fund. Guests were treated to an impressive fly-past of WWII planes, as well as a vintage afternoon tea, refreshments and live music.
Richard Brown, founder and owner of Glenbrae, has many family connections to the RAF. His grandfather was the engineer who first put the Rolls Royce engine in a fighter plane and was also the test pilot. His father-in-law was a Spitfire pilot in WWII and his identical twin brother was a rear gunner in bombers.
Brown commented: I’m extremely proud that Glenbrae is supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund though the sale and donations of the scarves and sweaters, as well as this event.
The RAF Benevolent Fund supports all serving and former members of the Royal Air Force, as well as their partners and dependent children, by providing welfare breaks, mobility grants and many other benefits.
