Callaway Water Resistant Thermal Trousers review: First impressions
You’d expect waterproof golf trousers to be thin and feel plastic-like, like a typical waterproof, right? Not with these thermal golf trousers from Callaway. These pants look the business: they’re thick and feel totally waterproof.
You’re never going to get golf waterproofs that look amazing or have an abundance of flair to them. They’re made for one reason: for keeping that pesky rainwater at bay, and these Callaway pants feel comprehensive in this department.
The trousers feel stretchy too. This will help if you struggle with getting the right sizing, but I’m a slender build and take a 30 inch waist/leg, so this feature won’t really benefit me, but it might do for others.
They’re designed with a fleece lining to help retain body heat, so I expect these trousers to keep my legs toasty as well as completely dry on rainy days.
There’s a snap button for fastening them and a strip of embossed Callaway branding on the inner waistline. It’s just a shame it’s out of sight as it’s very easy on the eye. There is however a Callaway Chev logo above the back right pocket.
Callaway Water Resistant Thermal Trousers review: On the course
I immediately noticed the effects of the fleece lined legs. Testing was carried out on a cold autumnal day and I’m going to pack these trousers on every round in the latter stages of the year. Even if the sun does come out, what’s to stop me from taking them off?
If you thought the fun stopped at their sheer warmth, think again. When it rains on the golf course, it pours down. Don’t worry, I can confirm these trousers are like kryptonite when it comes to water resistance.
And that’ll be thanks to the Opti-Repel technology. This creates a barrier of protection from inclement weather that is resistant to both wind and water. They also dry up quickly, so you won’t get slowed down by the extra weight of raindrops.
There’s four pockets in total. The two side pockets are much more spacious then I expected whilst the back pockets are the perfect size for storing your glove in. Just don’t make the mistake I made and keep your tees and balls in your under trousers whilst wearing these…
The Callaway Water Resistant Thermal Trousers do everything you’d hope they would on the course. The polyester/spandex material fits around your legs and waist superbly and they won’t hinder you at all. Now I can see why Callaway staffers use these on tour!
Callaway Water Resistant Thermal Trousers review: The 19th hole
Callaway’s thermal trousers are great for the autumn/winter months when worn above your standard trousers. It’s destined to rain at this time of the year, so having that waterproof protection when you’re exposed to the elements is a must. I can’t find myself wearing them off the course though, as none of the activities or other sports I play demand their industrial-strength properties. But if you’re into hiking or running, they might just be the perfect solution when the shorts won’t cut it.
