Thorbjorn Olesen WITB. The Dane grabbed his fifth European Tour win at the Italian Open and has rocketed into contention to make fellow countryman Thomas Bjorn’s Ryder Cup team in September.
It’s a second win in the space of a month for Olesen who was on the winning team at the Golf Sixes at the beginning of May.
The Dane, like nearly all former Nike men, relies on pretty much a bag full of TaylorMade gear these days.
But he’s certainly in no rush to give the new models a try.
He opts for the 2016 M1 driver which was replaced by the 2017 M1 before being replaced again by the M3.
And he uses a couple of 2016 M2 fairway woods which are still as good as anything we have tested in the couple of years since their release.
Like Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods, Olesen is fond of the Tour Preferred UDi 2-iron before going into the 2015 PSi irons.
He carries a Callaway Mack Daddy 4 wedges to go alongside his TaylorMade Milled Grind.
Olesen’s putter is a clean, classic Scotty Cameron Newport-style model and he favours the Titleist Pro V1x golf ball.
A final round 64 kept him one-shot ahead of home favourite Francesco Molinari who was looking for back-to-back victories.
A clutch par at the last sealed Olesen’s fifth win on tour.
“It was nice to hole that putt on the last and to get that feeling of holing it when it really matters,” he said.
“This is exactly what I needed. Well, it’s always what we need but right now for me it’s great.”
