‘No shorts!’ Jon Rahm surprised by Augusta rules for Green Jacket

The Spaniard revealed a few of the regulations the Masters winner must follow

Jon Rahm is the newest owner of the Green Jacket after completing an impressive victory at the Masters earlier this month over Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson.

Scottie Scheffler helped the Spaniard put on his new garment at Augusta National, one of golf’s greatest honours.

But with great power comes great responsibility. You can’t just throw on the jacket to nip to the supermarket – as Rahm soon discovered.

“There’s a dress code that comes with it,” Rahm told the SubPar show. “You learn about this quickly when you have to sign documents and things about what you’re doing.”

The first-ever Green Jacket was handed to Sam Snead in 1949. Once you win the Masters tournament, you can take the jacket from the premises, but it must be returned after 12 months have passed.

Jackets are only reserved for members of the famous club, and of course, the Masters winners.

But what about the other rules, the ones no one knows about? Rahm gave us a little look behind the curtain…

“We all know the rules around Augusta National,” Rahm added. “They tell you you’re representing Augusta National. The jacket is Augusta National.

“The least you can wear is golf attire. That’s the worst dress code you can have – no jeans, no shorts.

“The jacket can’t make a public appearance without them knowing. They don’t like to be surprised. They need to give approval for everything – they had to approve this.

“I can’t be photographed with the jacket and have alcohol – it goes on and on.”

Such as with the no-running and no-phone policy at Augusta National, it is certainly a club that plays by its own rules.
