Get your game ready for 2020 – Episode 4: Improve your driving with this range game

It can be the source of so much frustration. You stripe it on the range but can't seem to replicate on the course. We cover this and more in the latest instalment of our instruction series

Our countdown to the new season continues with episode 4 of our winter golf training series and this time we’re looking at how you can take work from the driving range onto the course – particularly with the driver. We’ve looked at technique so now it’s about trying to recreate the kind of conditions you face in the heat of battle…

Winter Golf Training Episode 4: Hit your driver better with this range game

As Dan says, it always helps to finish a practice session with some sort of test. It adds an element of fun as well as pressure which will give you a better chance of producing when you need to most, on the course.

To make this effective, record your data so you can set a personal best. You might not think this sort of thing will make you squirm but I promise it gets tense when you’re on the precipice of beating a previous score.

The test I’m doing here is to improve my driving which is probably the weakest part of my game. I hit the ball a decent distance but don’t get the chance to make the most of it due to my inaccuracy.

In the video, Dan has picked out targets to set up a fairway for me to aim at which is about 25 yards wide as well as light rough so it’s representative.

And as well as enabling you to better cope with pressure on the course, it can also highlight any miss tendencies you might have that you were unaware of.

Not only can this sort of game be used to improve your efficiency off the tee, but it’s so easy to set up for other parts of your game.

Want to see how many points I got? You’ll have to watch the video…
