JJ Spaun is one of the newest major winners in the sport, having secured his maiden major title at the US Open at Oakmont in 2025.
Spaun played golf from an early age, having his first set of plastic clubs at the age of just 3. He played plenty of amateur golf, including collegiate golf during his time at San Diego State University. After graduating in 2012, he spent several years on the mini tours, racking up a trio of wins before making the jump up to the PGA Tour for the 2017 season.
It would be five more years before the American finally entered the winners’ circle on the PGA Tour. He did so in some style at the Valero Texas Open in 2022. It would be 2025 where his big breakthrough year, came though.
After losing out in a Monday playoff at the Players Championship to , it wouldn’t be long before Spaun cracked the big time. He did so with an incredible performance at the 2025 at Oakmont. He was the only player to finish the week under par in testing conditions, and sank a 65-foot putt on the 72nd hole for birdie to win by two shots. The win catapulted him into the top ten in the Official World Golf Rankings for the first time.
