With the likes of Hideki Matsuyama, Brooks Koepka and Shane Lowry gaming Srixon irons, you know the Japanese brand has some of the best irons on the market. Now they have launched their latest generation of irons with the introduction of the Srixon ZXi irons.

The Technology

Srixon have included their Tour V.T. Sole in the construction of each model of iron in the ZXi range. This is to ensure a greater turf interaction for cleaner strikes by combining sole widths, bounce angles and notches to allow a smoother glide through various types of ground.

Srixon ZXi irons

This includes fairways, rough and bunkers with the Tour V.T. Sole ensuring that there isn’t a great loss of ball speed. Srixon have included the sole technology in the utility irons for the first time as well as a leading-edge side chamfer.

The Srixon ZXi7, ZXi5 and ZXi4 irons have progressive grooves which enable a more consistent spin rate across the face of the irons and set. Longer irons from each set feature wider grooves, whilst the shorter irons have deeper closer set grooves. Laser milling is also included between each groove on every loft to ensure a sense of control over approach and wedge shots, promoting an added bite on each strike.

Srixon ZXi irons

Other key innovations across the range, including an i-Forged club head. In the ZXi7s Proprietary Condensed Forged inserts are added to strengthen the hosel area which allowed Srixon to use a softer S15C steel to produce better control and feel.

In terms of the ZXi5s the forged faces are softened to improve feel. There is Condesed Forging stretching from the high-toe area and along the topline of the iron blade to increase the overall strength and durability. This is also evident in the ZXiU utility irons.

Srixon ZXi irons

The ZXi4s are constructed from a SUS17-47 material which allows for an easier adjustment of the loft and lie angle for a better fit. Compared to previous generations, these irons supply a significant upgrade in terms of feel.

A MainFrame is included to save weight and add to the irons’ forgiveness. This is achieved through a network of milled channels on the back side of the iron face which helps to increase the ball speed upon impact.

All of the models adopt this technological structure expect the ZXi7 irons which have a PureFrame. Compared to previous generations these irons have a larger forged ridge in the body of the iron behind the sweet spot. The increase in size of this ridge results in better fell, control and stability.

Srixon ZXi Drivers: The Line-up

The Srixon ZXi irons range features four models: Srixon ZXi7 irons, Srixon ZXi5 irons, Srixon ZXi4 irons and Srixon ZXiU Utility irons.

Srixon ZXi7 Irons

Srixon ZXi irons

Looks: Tour-preferred shaping and looks. Being a player’s iron it has a slimmer profile and can see less of the back of the club at address. A compact shape, thin topline, narrow sole, short blade and minimal offset, which is generally the preferred look for lower handicappers and tour-level golfers.

Main Attributes: Designed to be the most workable option out of the ZXi range and the best feeling.

Who is it for?: For those golfers who prioritise shot shape abilities from their blade irons.

Srixon ZXi5 Irons

Looks: Players distance shaped. Features a slightly wider sole than the ZXi7 model but is still a moderate blade length and offset.

Main Attributes: Designed to deliver a blend of power and playability for long but forgiving irons.

Who is it for?: For those club golfers that require a bit more forgiveness than the player’s irons option.

Looks: Unique hollow body design which features moderate sole width. Although it still offers an appealing look at address.

Main Attributes: Designed to provide the most forgiveness out of the ZXi range but still delivers a forged feel.

Who is it for?: For those club golfers that are after an easier to hit set of irons whilst still being a blade shape.

Srixon ZXiU Utility Irons

Looks: A blade-like design with minimal offset but the widest soles.

Main Attributes: Designed to provide enhanced power, control and forgiveness making the longer irons easier to strike as well as being potent long iron replacements.

Who is it for?: For all club golfers.

About the author

A bit of a late bloomer to the game of golf, Max fell in love with the sport when he attended Saturday coaching sessions down at his local golf club after being inspired by friends and family members.

Max has remained a member of Eden Golf Club in Carlisle for a number of years now as he looks to get his handicap down into single figures. Most of his golfing career has been spent battling a permanent slice off the tee, which has led to some ugly rounds.

Having studied at the University of Sunderland, Max is starting out his dream career in sports journalism. During his time at university, he picked up valuable work experience at Reach PLC, BBC Radio Cumbria and GiveMeSport, whilst also getting work published in the Teesside Live. He also spent time working at a local weekly newspaper, Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser, as a general news reporter partially covering some local sport just north of the border in Langholm.

Max has just started his journey with the NCG working as the assistant equipment editor. He looks forwarded to reviewing the latest golf equipment, taking up an interest in reviews when buying his first golf club, a Cleveland RTX wedge.

With his bag not going under too many changes throughout the last few years, Max carries an M3 driver, Titleist GT3 Fairway Wood, M2 hybrid, a set of M2 irons, Callaway Jaws wedges and a TaylorMade Spider putter. And yes, Max is a bit of a self-proclaimed TaylorMade fan boy.
