Ping Winter Apparel Sale – Top 7 picks

Ping Vernon Jacket

4.5 star review
Best winter golf jackets

Out of the packet, the first impressions of the Ping Vernon Jacket was that it was quite thick, though there need not have been any concern as the jacket is still incredibly lightweight.

A bug bear of mine is when golf outer layers do not actually provide the warmth required resulting in the need to wear multiple layers. This is not an issue for the Ping Vernon as the quilted front provides excellent insulation and warmth, negating the need for multiple layers. In addition to this the stretch fleece material used for the arms, back and hem allow for complete freedom of movement in the golf swing.

While not advertised as waterproof it does have a water-resistant finish which holds up well in light rain and a nice additional feature is the two front zip pockets which are both lined.

The classic colour options and style of the jacket make it eminently wearable off the course as much as on it which is becoming a notable feature of PING clothing.

PROS

  • Good value
  • Well insulated
  • Lightweight

CONS

  • Length of jacket

RRP: £95

Sizes: S-3XL
Colour: Asphalt/Black, Classic Blue/Black, Navy, Fig/Black

Ping Norse S5 Zoned Hooded Jacket

4.5 star review
Best Winter Golf Jumpers

The hoodie is fast becoming the staple of a golfers wardrobe, if you are one of those golfers then the Ping Norse S5 Zoned Hooded Jacket would be a strong addition to yours, if not then you should jump on board the train.

Where the Ping Norse S5 Zoned Hooded Jacket stands out from other hoodies is that it possesses more the characteristic of a jacket as opposed to a jumper. The quilted design provides additional insulation, though don’t mistake this as being overly warm, while the polyester material offers a water-resistant finish. A nice feature are the two zip pockets that come with a soft brushed lining, ideal for keeping your hands warm between shots.

The quarter zip makes it is easy to slip on and the lightweight nature of the jacket means it can be comfortably worn over multiple layers.

The hood is made of waterproof material which makes it very light but not so much that it becomes an inconvenience in the wind. Overall this Ping hooded jacket is a strong performer among its peers.

PROS

  • Looks great
  • Excellent fit
  • Brushed lined zip pockets

CONS

  • Premium price

Ping SensorDry S2 Pro waterproof jacket

4.5 star review
Best Waterproof Golf Jackets

The first thing I noticed when putting on the PING SensorDry S2 Pro Jacket was the brushed tricot inner lining which provides both additional comfort and warmth. The only issue I did have with the lining, albeit a minor one, was it meant having to take my glove off to put the jacket on which is not ideal when it is raining.

A feature I did like was the adjustable nature of the collars, neck and the shock cord on the hem, all of which felt like they were all contributing to minimising the opportunity for water to encroach.

The jacket has a classic aesthetic and comes in a choice of colours meaning there should be something to suit everyone. Most importantly the PING SensorDry S2 Pro Jacket performed well in wet weather and allowed a freedom of movement that meant the golf swing was completely unrestricted, something I have not always found in other waterpoof jackets.

PROS

  • Freedom of movement
  • Lightweight
  • Waterproof

CONS

  • Inner lining makes it hard to put on while wearing a glove

 Ping SensorDry Waterproof Trousers

4.5 star review
Best Waterproof Golf Trousers

First and foremost when it comes to waterproofs you want them to do as advertised and when it comes to top performing waterproof trousers the Ping SensorDry Trouser is right up there, verified both on the course and off it while walking the dog!

I often find with waterproof trousers that they are oversized and baggy, owing to the fact they are usually worn over another pair of trousers. What I particularly like about the PING SensorDry Trouser is the fit. They have a fully elasticated waist but still have a performance fit and feel to them. The waist can still be adjusted with a hidden adjustable cord, though I did not find this necessary.

An essential for waterproofs is that they are easy to slip on over shoes when caught short in the rain and the ankle zip comes up to just below the knee meaning that is the case with the SensorDry.

Lastly the stretch material used is unrestrictive and makes the trouser very breathable. These trousers are a great lightweight option and ones I would highly recommend.

  • Lightweight
  • Waterproof

 Ping Ladies Freda Waterproof jacket

5 star review
Best Ladies Golf Waterproofs

The Ping Freda is a full zip waterproof jacket that features two zip pockets on each side with additional velcro strips to provide further protection. Made from 100% polyester this jacket is incredibly lightweight and with Ping’s integrated SensorDry technology it is also very breathable.

In terms of fit I wore this in my regular top size which is a UK size 12. It certainly wasn’t too tight or difficult to swing in which is great. I liked that it didn’t feel too heavy on but also provided a bit of warmth so that if you didn’t want to wear a mid layer under you wouldn’t be too cold. The Freda jacket has velcro on the cuffs so that they can be adjusted to your preferred fit. There are also toggles on the bottom cuff on the jacket on the inside so that you can alter the fit there.

And well, the last big question and probably the most important to answer…yes, its waterproof! I wore this during a round with some heavy rain and I can confidently report that this jacket kept me comfortably dry. If this isn’t reassuring enough this jacket comes with a 3-year waterproof guarantee from Ping.

PROS:

  • Fits well and has adjustable toggles inside
  • Velcro and zips on pockets
  • Great range of colours

CONS:

  • None

RRP: £120

Colours: White/Black, Flame/Black, Aquatic/Scuba Blue, Oxford Blue/White, Rosebud/White

 Ping Ladies Juno Waterproof trousers

5 star review
Best Ladies Golf Waterproofs

The Juno trousers from Ping are the only waterproof trousers they offer, and I can see why. These trousers really tick every box that you would want when it comes to a pair of waterproof trousers.

I wore these in my regular trouser size which is a UK 10. I enjoyed how they fit around the waist and there is an adjustable toggle on the inside, with an elasticated waist band. There is also belt loops on these trousers if you want to add a belt. I am 5ft 8 and wore the regular length which were perfect, but Ping does offer a shorter and longer option depending on your height.

Out on the course, these were enjoyable to wear. There are pockets at the front that have a singular press stud fasten and one back pocket that has velcro patches. Ping states that these Juno trousers are fully seam-sealed and with a 3-year waterproof guarantee these are a great addition to any golfer’s wardrobe for this winter.  They held up well in the rain and afterwards dried off fairly quickly. As they are so lightweight, they folded down to a reasonably small size, meaning they didn’t take up the entire pocket in my golf bag.

  • Lightweight

 Ping SensorDry Bucket Hat

5 star review
Best Winter Golf Hats 2023

I have to declare that I am a big fan of a bucket hat, particularly a waterproof one. As a glasses wearer, a perennial issue for me on the golf course is rain, and keeping said rain off of my glasses. The Ping SensorDry Bucket Hat does this perfectly, the wide brim offers full protection, even if the rain is coming in at an angle. The front of the brim also has a firm but not particularly noticeable peak, which adds another layer of protection in keeping the rain off your face.

The hat is lightweight and breathable which is great, but the feature I really like is that it truly is a one-size-fits-all. There is a hidden size adjuster, meaning that the hat can be adjusted to fit all. For those worried about windy conditions, then there is an adjustable cord which can be tightened to negate this, this cord is also removable.

For anyone looking for a top-performing bucket hat, I would 100% recommend the Ping SensorDry.

PROS:

  • Wide Brim
  • Waterproof
  • Adjustable

  • None
