Lyle & Scott has a heritage dating back over 145 years, with a reputation for merging function, technology and style. The Divot Polo from the Golf Performance range is constructed from 90% polyester and 10% spandex. It offers moisture wicking and breathability so is very comfortable next to the skin.
At first, out of the packaging, I was a little underwhelmed by the ‘Divot’ Print in white, but it looks a lot better when worn – in fact it looks quite stylish, with the print offering subtle character. The look is completed by a tailored contrasting white collar. The only motif is a black eagle over the back of the right shoulder which means that this garment can be comfortably worn both on and off the course. I tested the version in medium which fitted comfortably so I’d say it runs true to size.

It is one of the more stylish looking gilets, but I didn’t feel that it offered as much heat retention as the more insulating garments available, so I’d suggest it’s more useful for ‘shoulder’ season golfing activities.
Through doing these clothes reviews, I have found you can always rely on Lyle & Scott. No matter the item of golf clothing they always seem to deliver a high-end quality garment. This quarter zip windproof jacket exceeds in that department for both its looks and its performance. It is everything i want from a golf jacket. Lyle & Scott have designed it using windproof and lightweight fabric. Being lightweight is important for me, as although this will mainly be used in the winter, I still hate playing golf in something that is overly bulky. Additionally, the fabric is also stretchy and works with a player’s golf swing, rather than against it.
I can struggle with zips, partly because the idea of a being left-handed seems alien to some apparel companies, but this draws down very easily and the spacious pockets means I’m not losing stuff out of my trousers as I constantly fish around for a glove or a ball marker.
This isn’t slim fitting, by any means, but it’s compact enough that there isn’t lots of loose fabric hampering your swing. And you can also easily fit a waterproof top over it and not feel like the Michelin man.
Some of you may miss the iconic eagle that usually adorns the front of Lyle & Scott products. The stylish lettering is different, but don’t let that obscure your view. This is an excellent vest. Or is it a gilet?

The 90% polyester, 10% spandex fabric is lightweight, moisture wicking and breathable, and, as such, offers supreme comfort next to the skin.
There is a 3-button placket closure and a tailored collar which provides a stylish look, and it runs true to size.
I’ve worn this on the course a few times already, and it also looks good enough to wear away from the course, because the only logo is a subtle white eagle over the back of the right shoulder which is hardly noticeable.

Now I love a gilet and have several in my wardrobe for a range of outdoor activities, including golf. For me, the best gilets are ones that I almost forget I’m wearing in that they are lightweight and comfortable. They also need to offer strong warmth to weight ratio and be easily packable in my golf bag when the weather warms up.
This full zip gilet by Lyle & Scott is made from recycled material in a softshell fabric with a print pattern on the chest. It has two useful zippered pockets, and I’ve found it to offer reasonable windproofing when worn as a third layer (over a polo and midlayer). And for me the sizing runs a little on the small side for this particular garment. I’m comfortably a medium in a Lyle & Scott polo. The medium in this gilet felt to be a little too close fitting, although admittedly there was no interference with my swing.
In the days where the golfing midlayer is everywhere it’s nice to see this knitted garment from Lyle & Scott. It is constructed from a merino wool/acrylic blend. The former offers warmth and breathability, and the latter provides durability and resistance to stretching.
There is a quarter-zip, ribbed collar and ribbed trims at the cuffs and hem. It comes in no less than six different colours so you are sure to find a shade to suit.
On the course it offers a refreshingly different and stylish look to a midlayer and it provides reasonable insulation. I don’t think it is a garment for the coldest days on the links. It just about fits true to size. If you are between sizes, then I’d recommend going up. There is a single contrasting Eagle motif on the left chest which makes it suitable for casual wear as well.
Because of the wool element in this jumper, it will require a bit more care than a standard midlayer so do bear that in mind. The RRP is under £100 and there’s currently 40% off so bag yourself a bargain!

Quarter Zips. Probably the one piece of clothing that is synonymous with golf the most. I must admit I sit a bit on the fence when it comes to quarter zips. At times I really like them, and then there’s other times where they just don’t do anything for me. I’m not sure if it’s the colour or the general styling but this golf course midlayer definitely falls into the former category. It looks modern, feels sporty but is also notably traditional and ‘golfy’. That is the perfect mix for me when it comes to golf clothes.
It is extremely breathable with the stretch fabric delivering unrestricted movement for a more free swing. With the bad weather set to be in for the foreseeable, it’s weather-resistant qualities, especially against light rain and wind is very useful.
If you are, like me, follically challenged, then a good beanie in winter is a must. A cap just doesn’t cut it when the mercury plummets but beanies can have their issues. Some weigh you down like lead when it rains, others threaten to cut off the blood supply to your brain. None of these issues apply to the Lyle & Scott Merino Wool Blend Beanie. It’s spectacular in every way. Very light and incredibly soft, thanks to that merino, it’s extremely comfortable to wear. Don’t be alarmed that it’s ‘one size’. It stretches magnificently to fit any head shape and it remains light even when the rain is falling. Some of you may raise an eyebrow at £35 for a hat but it is a purchase you won’t regret.
Autumn’s a funny time, isn’t it? Too warm for winter wear and not hot enough to stay in a polo and shorts combination. When you need an extra layer, but not a jacket, Lyle & Scott’s Crew Neck Vest can fill the gap. It’s a bold pattern, that’s for sure, and it might not appeal to everyone. But this is a light and airy garment, true to size, and is very comfortable to swing in. For those who don’t want fabric going over the wrists but want to add a touch of warmth to October and November golf, this could be the perfect compromise.

Their golf windproof vest is exceptional. It’s very lightweight – always a factor if you’re slipping it on and off as weather conditions change in early autumn – and it performs excellently in the wind.
WINDJAMMER! It sounds like something out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A garment that repels breeze and takes down double bogeys at the same time. It does an admirable job. It’s very light and wraps up smartly in your golf bag but do not mistake that for flimsiness. When the gusts arrive, it is more than up to the task. Lyle & Scott’s regular fit is designed to be comfortable – “not too tight, not too loose” – but I’d have preferred it to be slightly tighter, so you might consider moving up or down a size depending on your preferred fit.

Nothing – whether it’s wind or rain – feels like it’s going to penetrate the hard-shell exterior of Lyle & Scott’s Windproof half zip jacket. As good as it is in autumn, and it’s impressive, I think it will perform even better in the coldest spells in January and February.
An internal mesh feels fleece-lined, though this jacket is 100% polyester, and it is very effective at trapping heat. The jacket is relatively firm to the touch. While it doesn’t stop you swinging, it’s a fabric that is slightly firmer than I would like.
I often find the cuffs on jackets like this a big issue. With small wrists, I’m stretching the adjustors and still find them too loose. But the fastening performs admirably here and I’ve no fears of ruining the jacket with repeated wear.
I really like how Lyle & Scott seem to have opted to incorporate violet and purple colours into their range this year as the go-to choice of colour. It’s different, refreshing and looks smart. I tend to button up all the way with golf polos, especially during winter, and some can be a little tight around the neck, but this was absolutely fine in that regard. On the whole, the polo fitted nicely and to size, so no need to second guess which size you’ll be. I found going with my regular one was completely fine. This polo also works well with a base layer in case your thinking of adding another layer during the colder rounds this winter.
When it comes to base layers, Lyle & Scott might not be the first brand that pops into your head.
We all know Lyle & Scott is a fantastic brand, but their base layers are top-notch as well.
The fit of the base layer is great, with sizes ranging from XS to 2XL.
I’m a slim medium, and the medium size fit me perfectly. Sometimes base layers can feel restrictive when you’re swinging, but this one felt like you weren’t even wearing it.
The turtleneck is just the right height, not too low or too high. Made from a polyester-elastane blend with 4-way stretch, it’s really good value for the money. Plus, the classic eagle logo on the neck adds a stylish touch and this base layer provides that extra layer of warmth on chilly days.
The only thing I was not keen on was the large Lyle & Scott lettering down the left arm – but this is just personal taste as I generally prefer more subtle branding.
But overall, I was impressed with the base layer and would definitely recommend giving it a try.
