NCG SUMMARY

The PXG Battle Ready II Brandon putter offers a rare combination of the precision of a traditional blade, with the forgiveness and stability promoted by mallet designs. Packed with technology like S COR and the third-gen pyramid face pattern, it’s an innovative offering for golfers who want more performance from a compact head. While the stock grip may not be a fit for everyone, it’s a minor gripe in what is otherwise a standout product.

PROS

  • Stunning design
  • A soft yet responsive feel off the face
  • Extremely forgiving for a blade putter

CONS

  • Thicker grip than expected
  • £239.00

PXG Battle Ready II Brandon Putter Review: First Impressions

From the moment I unboxed the Brandon, it’s clear this putter is a looker. The all-black design is bold and commanding. PXG has also included their signature skull icon which is etched onto the sole and face. I think it’s one of the most visually striking blades on the market right now, and the head shape is spot on. Those who favour traditional golf gear will love it, yet it still has a modern twist.

This is a blade that drew me in before I even took a stroke.

NCG Verdict

Blade putters aren’t usually associated with tech-forward features, mainly due to their smaller head size. But PXG has bucked that trend here. The hollow body construction allows for significant weight redistribution, increasing the MOI, Moment of Inertia, and enhancing forgiveness on off-centre hits which is something that is rarely available in blade putters.

One of the technological features PXG has added is the S COR technology which is a lightweight polymer injected behind the ultra-thin face. Not only does this improve the overall feel and sound, but it plays a key role in pushing more mass toward the perimeter, adding to the putter’s stability and forgiveness.

In fact, PXG claims the Brandon has the thinnest face of any putter currently on the market, and this thinness isn’t just a design flex it is also functional. Much like with modern drivers and irons, face design here contributes directly to better energy transfer and consistent performance.

PXG has also iterated on its pyramid face pattern which introduces a more aggressive milling across the face. As a result I was able to exude a smoother, more controlled roll and a beautifully soft feel at impact. While it might not be ideal for very slow greens due to its gentle feedback, I found it still offers an impressively tactile response across the board.

PXG Battle Ready II Brandon Putter review

In truth, I found there to be very little to critique here, but one thing I wasn’t keen on was the stock grip. For a putter that nails nearly every detail, the PXG grip feels a bit too chunky. A thinner pistol-style grip would not only complement the blade’s profile but also add a more traditional touch for players used to classic feels. Thankfully, this is a quick fix for anyone getting fit.

Final Verdict

Overall, I really like the PXG Battle Ready II Brandon putter. It mixes the traditional blade aesthetics with contemporary technology to create a really consistently performing putter. It’s visually stunning, impressively forgiving for a blade, and packed with tech that actually delivers. PXG’s custom fitting options allow you to get fit to optimise performance.

Just don’t forget to ask for a grip swap.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
