NCG SUMMARY

This driver could be a great fit for a lot of club golfers of all levels. A clean and sleek driver that looks inviting behind the ball and delivers top level performance.

Wilson have equipped this driver with a classic sound that gives great feedback off there face of the club. Accuracy won’t be a problem for any off the tee again as every shot I took with this driver went straight down the fairway.

PROS

  • Classic looking driver
  • Easy to hit
  • A straight ball flight

CONS

  • Slight decrease in distance

First Impressions

Wilson have constructed this driver to have a full titanium head, so unlike some of the others drivers Wilson have released as part of their Dynapowr range there is no carbon. The head is also a different shape with the driver designed to deliver forgiveness and stability.

The styling is very much that of would you would typically find for a maximum forgiveness driver. Wilson has given the driver a shallower face, a longer front to back profile and there is a lack of adjustable weighting on the sole of the club.

In terms of weighting there is a big and heavy tungsten weight located at the back of the club head to increase the launch height as well as the forgiveness and spin rate.

NCG Verdict

I have to say, although there was a drop off, the gap in distance I was averaging wasn’t overly significant to what I produce with low spin drivers. In addition to the solid distances I also found this driver to be extremely comfortable to use and easy to find the middle of the club face.

In some ways the Wilson Dynapwr LS is a throw back driver. Due to there being no carbon in the head this driver feels very familiar for a full titanium head, to me it just feels right.

At address the club face does sit slightly closed which helps massively for golfers who tend to loose the ball out to the right. There is an air of confidence for me when I had this driver in hand during testing as I felt like I couldn’t miss a fairway.

Wilson Dynapwr MAX Driver review

I love how Wilson have reverted to constructing the new Dynapwr drivers with a more classic sound off the face. A higher pitched sound that just sounds clean.

Performance wise, I found that this was the best performing Wilson Dynapwr 2025 driver for me. This was by far the straightest hitting driver out of the range with the front to back and the side to side dispersions were also the smallest out of the three.

My average carry yardage was 263 and the average spin rate was around 3000rpm, both solid showings that I was content with. I saw a dip in my average speed of 158mph, which isn’t particularly fast but this reduction in speed meant it felt easy to swing and wasn’t hard work.

Overall, this is a great option for golfers who are simply looking to find more fairways off the tee. Launching the ball into the air also won’t be a problem if you’re are looking to increase the elevation in your ball flight.

Although the carry distance may be dwindled in comparison to what less forgiving driver heads can offer this will certainly get you in play. There is also plenty of technology incorporated in the face of the driver to help keep those ball speeds high.

Callaway Epic Max driver review
Jack Backhouse

A member of the PGA for 13 years, Jack has lived golf for more than half his life. Inspired by Tiger Wood’s winning putt at the 2008 US Open, an obsession began with watching slow motion golf swings on the internet and reading What’s In The Bag articles in magazines.

Not destined for a life behind the desk in a pro shop, Jack has focussed more on coaching, working closely with regional teams in North Yorkshire and helping golfers of all levels on their journey to enjoying playing the game more. Jack has coached many junior golfers into the county teams, and once worked with a player at the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie.

After letting his game fall apart prior to COVID, Jack rediscovered his love for playing golf after joining Silloth Golf Club in 2020 and whipping round the windy, firm links course. Playing regularly with a half set of clubs he has a passion for shot making and developing skill, and claims to have the sharpest 30-100 yard game in the North of England (only because he doesn’t know anyone in the South), and now maintains a +1 handicap at a club much closer to home, Sand Moor GC.

Jack has always tinkered with his equipment, once building his own Frankenstein one length set of clubs after watching Bryson DeChambeau burst onto the scene after winning the US Amateur. He firmly believes in getting custom fit and is happy to debate anyone about blade irons being superior to any other iron category.

Jack loves: playing quickly, 2 ball golf, match play, heathland courses, pencil bags, foursomes, Tiger Wood’s swing 2005-2009.

Jack hates: buggies, unnecessary trees, giving shots, the 7 iron loft debate, graphite shaft lovers weird superiority complex.
