First Impressions

My current set up is not ideal as I have a smallish carry bag which just about holds a full set and a waterproof hybrid which I transfer my golf clubs into when it rains. I also use a cart bag from time to time. All in all it is a bit of a faff. Enter the Motocaddy solo. Potentially the bag of my dreams.

Before I expound on the many positives I should say that I could not find any reference as to whether it is actually waterproof. The material seems waterproof and the pockets have the waterproof looking zips. They do say that the rain hood is waterproof. At the very least it seems to be made of material that would be fairly water-resistant, but that is only my impression.

With that out of the way let’s talk about the bag. It its a good looking bag with contrasting greys and looks very much in the Motocaddy family. Next, it is light. Very light. At 1.6 kg it is one of the lightest carry bags I have reviewed. It is also compact and despite my enthusiasm for its size, I was apprehensive about whether it could take a full set of clubs. I need not have been, as it takes 14 clubs with ease. I am generally a golfer who prefers carrying when possible but the weight of a full set in some bags can preclude this. With a sensible number of balls and tees this was still eminently carryable even with waterproofs and an umbrella.

What I found

The size comes with a limit on what can be carried but it has four pockets and is plenty of storage for most scenarios. In use, the space for the clubs is impressive. It has 4 full length dividers and I was genuinely surprised the ease with which the clubs fitted and could be removed and replaced. Carrying was comfortable and the strap is high quality with no twisting. It is a fully adjustable 4 point strap so there should be no problem in finding a comfortable carrying position.

There is a cushioned hip pad for extra comfort, an external beverage pouch, dry valuables pocket and a towel and accessory hook as would be expected. The stand opens really easily and is stable.

Should the need arise it sits very well on a trolley without twisting.

There is not much else to add. I have been looking for a bag like this and it is the perfect every-day bag. My only gripe is that Motocaddy have not specified whether it is waterproof or not.

Final Thoughts

The Motocaddy Solo bag ticks most boxes for this category of bag. For me, the fact that a bag this light can accommodate a full set of clubs without them getting stuck and tangled makes it an absolute winner.
