First impressions

As a religious wearer of waterproof trousers in winter, I was itching to get my hands on a new pair to try. Straight out of the packet you could tell these were a quality pair of waterproof trousers.

The Montana waterproof trousers adopts Sunderland’s Never Weather Beaten protection. This includes features such as waterproof lockdown leg zips and Velcro flaps on the back pocket to keep contents dry.

Coming in two different colourways, black and navy the trousers have white Sunderland logos in several different places.

On Course Testing

As you can tell by the mixture of images, I have worn these trousers many times over the past couple of weeks. I’ve honestly found them to be so comfortable and easy to wear. I first took them out on a cold Tuesday morning. They provided a lot of warmth for a pair of waterproof trousers, which was needed.

I also liked the deep pockets on the front, which were fleece lined and the single back pocket. All of the pockets have flaps to stop things from falling out or water from getting in. This is also great for keeping warmth in. The back pocket has some added velcro to keep things secure.

Speaking of keeping warmth in, I liked how you could tighten the cuffs at bottom of the leg which helped to keep warm.

In bottoms, I usually wear a UK size 10 and I was really unsure on what size to go for. The Sunderland website provides a size guide that said a Medium was UK 10-12 and with an adjustable elasticated waist I knew I would be able to alter them. When I first tried them on, they were a little too big but after tightening them they sat nicely. Sunderland also offers these trousers in 3 different choices of leg length. At 5ft 8, the regular 29” leg is spot on.

The 19th hole

For me, these are as good a quality waterproofs that you’re going to find. They’re fairly lightweight, great quality, and do everything you would expect. For £90 they’re excellent value for money!

The only real criticism which I have for these trousers is the very limited size range only offering S to XL which is a UK 8-16.
